Grambling football team skips practice and goes on Strike

Things are looking shaky for Grambling State University football team. Since Coach Doug Williams was fired the team has been heading down hill. Grambling fired Williams because Grambling lost their first game of the season. The season still looks bleak because Grambling's football team is 0-7.

Upset about the outcome of a meeting with the schools administrators, the entire Grambling State football team skipped practice Wednesday. Apparently, the football players are not excited about how they are being treated. According to reports from Shreveport Times, the meeting was about traveling accommodations to games in Kansas City and Indianapolis and Coach Williams dismissal.

Shreveport Times reports:
The source said the teams’ frustrations have been boiling over a period time. Those frustrations include what’s considered as general disrespect from administration, not receiving all meals on road trips, taking a bus to distant locations like Kansas City and Indianapolis and the poor state of facilities like the weight room.
“It was basically a mutiny,” the source said. “(The team) rode the bus all that way (to Indianapolis), and then come back and are disrespected like that (in Tuesday’s meeting).
“(The team) is standing together because they don’t know if anybody else is standing with them.”
Several players didn’t respond to text messages, but junior linebacker Steve Orisakwe took to Twitter to vent his frustration.

I'm all for people standing up for their rights, but I'm sure there are consequences that can be detrimental to not only the school but the football players as well. Twitter is in a buzz with several questions that need answers;   How long will this strike last? Will Grambling be ready for the Bayou Classic? If not who will Southern University play against?

UPDATE

Matt Vines of the Shreveport Times is reporting that Grambling interim head football coach George Ragsdale has been fired. defensive coordinator Dennis Winston named interim coach.

The players reportedly held a team meeting  and decided to play against Jackson State on Saturday despite the strike.

UPDATE

Grambling players are still on strike and will not be playing at JSU's homecoming . Due to SWAC laws, Grambling State fined $20,000 for forfeiting Saturday's game.
